The Castle
An 11th-Century Fortress
Perched on a promontory with a 360° view of its ancient olive groves and vineyards, Castello di Velona was built as a medieval fortress in the 11th century. Its 12th-century watchtower — witness to the long rivalry between Siena and Florence — still stands. The castle is depicted in the Vatican's frescoed maps by Ignazio Danti. Restored and reopened as a resort in 2003, it remains the only castle in the world with thermal spring water, its own Brunello di Montalcino production, and organic extra virgin olive oil.

What awaits
The Estate
Wellness
The Olispa
An oasis of pure relaxation spanning 1,500 square metres, built around the castle's natural thermal spring waters. Indoor and outdoor panoramic pools overlook the Val d'Orcia hills, connected by an underwater passage. A panoramic sauna, Turkish baths with chromotherapy, an ice fountain, and six treatment cabins complete the sanctuary.
Dining
Settimo Senso
The castle's signature restaurant occupies the new wing, its west-facing terrace offering the most breathtaking sweep of the Val d'Orcia. A sensory journey through traditional Tuscan cuisine — tasting menus of five and seven courses, paired with Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino drawn from the estate's own five-hectare vineyard.
The Estate
Brunello di Montalcino
Five hectares of vineyard divided into six named parcels — Vignone, Poggetto, Campo della Fame, Gradoni, Vigna del Castello, Le Logge — each facing a different direction, each yielding wines ranked among the top ten in the Montalcino appellation. The estate also produces organic extra virgin olive oil from its ancient groves.
